Cracked vinyl, torn seams, and faded fabric are common issues on boat seats exposed to the Auckland sun and sea spray. We repair boat seats of all types — from small runabout bench seats to large launch captain's chairs — using marine-grade materials that resist UV fading, mildew, and salt water damage. Quick, professional repairs that keep your boat looking sharp and comfortable on every trip.
We manufacture custom-fit boat covers for all vessel types across Auckland, using heavy-duty, UV-resistant marine canvas and acrylic fabrics designed to withstand New Zealand's harsh sun, salt air, and coastal weather. Every cover is cut and sewn to the exact dimensions of your boat, with reinforced seams, stainless steel fittings, and secure fastening systems that won't loosen in wind or rough conditions. Whether you need an engine cover, a full hull cover, a cockpit cover, or protection for a specific section of your vessel, we build covers that fit properly.
Marine carpet takes punishment from wet feet, bait, and constant sun exposure. We remove old carpet and replace it with marine-grade carpet that is mould-resistant, quick-drying, and UV-stable. We cut and fit carpet to the exact dimensions of your boat's deck, hatches, and fittings for a clean, professional finish that's easy to maintain.
When repair isn't enough, a full reupholster transforms your boat's interior. We remove old covering, assess and replace any deteriorated foam, and apply your choice of marine-grade vinyl or fabric using waterproof stitching and UV-resistant thread. Whether you want to match the original look or refresh with a new colour scheme, we work entirely to your brief.
Marine foam must do more than provide comfort — it needs to resist moisture absorption and prevent mould forming underneath the seat covering. We use closed-cell marine foam that won't absorb water even if the seat covering is ever breached. Replacing tired, waterlogged foam makes your boat seats feel like new and prevents the mould and odour problems old foam causes over time.
Sun pads on the bow or stern of a boat face the most intense UV exposure of any surface on your vessel. Cracking, yellowing, and delaminating vinyl are common results. We repair and reupholster sun pads using heavy-duty marine vinyl with high UV resistance, ensuring they stay looking good and remain comfortable underfoot for seasons to come.
Bimini tops, boat covers, dodgers, and enclosures take enormous punishment from wind, sun, and sea. We repair torn canvas, replace broken fittings and zips, re-stitch failing seams, and where repair isn't sufficient we manufacture and fit replacement canvas using heavy-duty, marine-grade fabric with UV-resistant thread.
Squabs are the flat cushions lining the seating areas of many New Zealand boats. Over time the foam compresses, the vinyl cracks, and the stitching fails. We manufacture replacement squabs to exact dimensions using marine-grade vinyl and closed-cell foam, with professional piping and stitching for a premium finished look.
Cabin upholstery on launches and yachts needs to be both practical and comfortable. We reupholster cabin berth cushions, backrest panels, headliners, and seating using fabrics and vinyls suited to the enclosed marine environment — resistant to moisture while still creating a welcoming interior.
The captain's chair is the centrepiece of any helm station — it should look the part and provide lasting comfort on the water. We repair and reupholster captain's chairs for all vessel types across Auckland, using durable marine-grade vinyl and high-density foam that withstand constant sun exposure, salt spray, and the wear of long days on the water. Whether the vinyl is cracked, the foam has collapsed, or the stitching has failed, we restore your helm seat to full comfort and appearance.
All marine upholstery uses materials specifically designed for the marine environment — UV-resistant marine vinyl, closed-cell foam that won’t absorb water, marine-grade thread, and stainless steel or brass fittings where appropriate. These materials are essential for New Zealand’s coastal conditions and significantly outlast standard upholstery materials.
With quality marine-grade materials and proper care, boat upholstery should last 7–15 years depending on use and exposure. Regular rinsing with fresh water, covering your boat when not in use, and applying UV protectant to vinyl surfaces will extend the life significantly.
For most jobs we prefer to work from our Auckland workshop where we have all our tools and materials on hand. However, for larger vessels or jobs that are impractical to transport, we can discuss on-site options. Contact us to find the best approach.
Yes — we work on everything from small tinnies and kayaks to large game fishing boats, launches, yachts, and commercial vessels. Materials and techniques are tailored to the type of boat and how it’s used.
EXCELLENT Based on 26 reviews Posted on Andrew Young So thrilled with our newly upholstered armchairs; Viraj showed us a big range of fabrics and we ended up being quite daring with a bold, luxurious, leafy option; stunning result thanks to beautiful craftsmanship. Well done team, we look forward to providing you more work over the coming years- very impressed with quality of product - prompt and easy to deal with. CheersPosted on Ronak Modi It’s amazing to get our old stuff look new. Thanks to Upholstery World.Posted on Jenna Roake I reached out to Sejal to finish some new bench seats we had put in. Both Sejal and Viraj were really prompt with coming to visit, listening to the types of fabric and interior look we were going for and produced some stunning squabs that we are really happy with. We also had our curtains shortened to suit the new bench seats. The only slight issue was that we had get the squabs and curtains redone twice. The squab piping wasn’t on the edges of the squabs and there was bulk of fabric at the bottom of the squabs. The curtains & backing hadn’t been individually sewn causing bulging at the bottom. But Viraj was more than happy to understand what we were looking for and took both the squabs and curtains back to ensure a beautiful result. Thank you both for your patience and producing a stunning feature in our home.Posted on Joanne Jorgensen 22/7/25. Viraj came out and saw us in in our home in quick time to view our very cat scratched dining room chairs. Within 1 week they were looking brand new with the fabric we had chosen from samples Viraj had brought with him. Viraj was very helpful, professional and courteous in his approach to us. The cost was very reasonable and we would highly recommend anyone looking for upholstery needs to give Viraj a call.Posted on Alison Blaiklock We thought our old sofas were so munted and worn that they were beyond repair. But Viraj and Upholstery World did amazing, beautiful and affordable work restoring them and now we feel like we are in a luxurious resort! Viraj was considerate, great to communicate with, and gave very helpful advice.Posted on Andrew Malmo I agree with the other reviewers here. Upholstery World did an awesome job of two seat cushions, I'm super happy with the result. Really great service from first contact to delivery, thanks very much Viraj! Highly recommend.Posted on Anna Trotter Viraj has just delivered our beautiful 50+ year old arm chairs recovered and they look amazing! From the moment I contacted Upholstery World we had a five star service. He was super efficient, very reasonable, he collected and returned the chairs with no hassle at all. The upholstery job is top notch and he organised the purchase of the fabric from Warwick in Auckland for me. The entire process was seamless ... big thanks to Viraj, I would HIGHLY recommend him!
