Repair or reupholster? The short answer, with prices
Most people who contact us about a damaged sofa need a repair, not a full reupholstery. A repair fixes one specific fault and leaves the existing cover in place. Reupholstery strips the piece back and recovers it completely, and costs $600–$1,200 for a two-seater, $900–$1,800 for a three-seater and $1,500–$3,000 for a corner or modular suite. Repairs are quoted from photos, free, because the range is too wide for one honest number.
| Repair | Reupholstery | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens | One fault is fixed and the existing cover stays on the piece. | The piece is stripped back and completely recovered in new fabric. |
| Right when | The cover is still sound and the problem is localised: a split seam, a flat cushion, a broken spring, a worn patch of leather. | The cover is worn through, faded across the whole piece or permanently stained, or you simply want a different look. |
| Typical price | Quoted from photos. We do not publish a flat repair price, because a split seam and a rebuilt seat are not the same job. | $180–$500 dining chair, $300–$700 armchair, $600–$1,200 two-seater, $900–$1,800 three-seater, $1,500–$3,000 corner suite. |
| How long | Smaller repairs are often back with you within a few days. | One to two weeks, including time to order the fabric you choose. |
All prices exclude GST.

Leather Repair & Recolouring
Leather is beautiful but it shows its age — and Auckland's climate doesn't help. We repair cuts, tears, and cracks in leather upholstery, filling and blending repairs to make them as invisible as possible. We also recolour faded or discoloured leather using professional dyes matched to your original colour. Leather repair is one of the most effective ways to restore expensive furniture, car seats, or marine upholstery at a fraction of replacement cost.
Fabric & Vinyl Repair
Small tears, burns, cuts, or worn patches in fabric or vinyl don't always require a full reupholster. We patch and repair fabric and vinyl upholstery using matching materials where possible, with careful stitching and finishing to blend the repair into the surrounding material. For vinyl, we also offer heat-bonded repairs that provide a seamless, durable result.
Seam & Stitching Repair
Failed seams are one of the most common upholstery problems, and they're often straightforward to fix if caught early. We restitch open seams, reinforce stressed areas, and repair piping that has pulled loose — on furniture, car seats, marine upholstery, and any other upholstered item. Addressing seam failures early prevents damage spreading.

Foam & Padding Replacement
When your upholstery looks fine but feels terrible, the problem is almost always the foam underneath. We replace compressed, flattened, or broken-down foam in furniture cushions, car seats, boat seats, and campervan bedding — bringing back the comfort and support that the piece had when it was new. We assess the right foam density for each application.
Full Reupholstery Service
When a repair isn't enough, full reupholstery gives your piece a complete transformation. We strip the item back to its frame or base structure, assess and address any structural issues, replace foam and padding, and apply new fabric, leather, or vinyl with professional finishing. Available for furniture, automotive interiors, marine seating, campervan interiors, and commercial seating.
Colour Restoration
Faded, sun-damaged, or discoloured upholstery can often be restored to its original colour without a full reupholster. We offer professional colour restoration for leather, vinyl, and some fabric types — cleaning, prepping, and re-dyeing or repainting the surface to restore a consistent, uniform colour. Particularly effective for leather car seats and boat vinyl.

FAQ
Q: How do I know if my upholstery needs repair or full reupholstery?
A: If the damage is localised — a small tear, a failed seam, a cracked area — and the rest of the upholstery is in reasonable condition, a repair is likely the right choice. If the fabric is faded or deteriorated across a large area, or if the foam is flat throughout, full reupholstery delivers better value. We’ll give you an honest assessment and never recommend more work than you need.
Q: Can you repair leather that has been badly scratched by a cat?
A: Yes — cat scratches are one of the most common leather repair jobs we see. For moderate scratching, we can fill, blend, and recolour the affected area to significantly reduce visibility. For severe, deep scratching across a large area, full reupholstery may give a better long-term result. Send us photos via WhatsApp and we can advise before you commit.
Q: Do you offer a pickup and delivery service for repairs?
A: Yes — for furniture repairs, we offer a collect-and-return service across Auckland. For automotive repairs, we can discuss drop-off options at our workshop. Contact us to arrange collection and we’ll make the process as convenient as possible.
Q: How quickly can you repair my upholstery?
A: Simple repairs — stitching, small patches, minor leather work — can often be completed in 1–3 days. More complex repairs or full reupholstery takes longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline when you enquire so you know exactly what to expect.
