Campervan upholstery in NZ covers the cab seats, dinette and lounge cushions, berth mattresses, curtains, flooring and awnings, and the right materials are easy-clean, moisture-resistant and cut to your van’s exact shapes. Upholstery World does campervan and motorhome upholstery across Auckland, for factory-built vans, imported vans and DIY conversions. Because every van layout is different, most campervan work is quoted free from photos rather than from a fixed price list.
This guide covers what campervan upholstery includes, which materials suit life on the road, how to choose between repair, recover and replace, and how to get an accurate quote.
What does campervan upholstery include?
A campervan interior has more upholstered surfaces than most people expect:
- Cab seats — the driver and passenger seats, which wear like any car seat.
- Dinette and lounge seating — the benches and cushions you eat, work and relax on.
- Berth mattresses and bed cushions — often tapered or angled to fit the van.
- Curtains and blinds — for privacy, light control and warmth on cold nights.
- Carpet and flooring — cut to fit around seating, wheel arches and the cab.
- Awnings — repairs to stitching, zips and fittings, or a replacement awning.
- Custom embroidery — names or logos stitched into headrests or cushions.

Which materials work best in a campervan?
A campervan is a kitchen, lounge and bedroom in a very small space that also gets driven, parked in the sun and closed up damp. The materials need to cope with all of that.
| Area | What it needs | Good choices |
|---|---|---|
| Dinette and lounge | Wipe-clean, stain and abrasion resistant | Quality vinyl, marine-grade vinyl or outdoor performance fabric |
| Berth mattress | Breathable, comfortable, resists damp | Breathable, moisture-resistant fabric over foam cut to the berth shape |
| Cab seats | Hard-wearing, matches or refreshes the interior | Automotive vinyl, OEM-match fabric or leather |
| Curtains | Privacy, blockout, warmth | Thermal-lined or blockout fabric |
| Awning | UV and weather resistance | Heavy-duty UV-resistant canvas or acrylic |
Moisture is the main enemy
Cooking, breathing, wet jackets and cold nights all put moisture into a closed van. Foam and fabric that hold water lead to mould and smells, especially in berth cushions pushed against cold walls. Moisture-resistant fabrics, and ventilating the van when you can, make the biggest difference to how long the interior lasts.
Easy to clean beats delicate
Dinette seats see food, drinks, sand and muddy gear. A fabric or vinyl that wipes down quickly will look good far longer than a delicate furnishing fabric, however nice the swatch looks. For more on choosing fabrics, see our guide to choosing upholstery fabric and the comparison of leather versus fabric.
Watch the weight
Every kilogram counts in a campervan, particularly on smaller vans. Choosing sensible foam densities and avoiding unnecessarily heavy fabrics keeps the load down without sacrificing comfort. We will talk through the options when we quote.

Should I repair, recover or replace my campervan upholstery?
- Repair when the fabric or vinyl is sound and the problem is a split seam, a small tear or a broken zip.
- Recover when the covering is worn, faded or dated but the foam is still firm and dry. New covers go over the existing foam.
- Replace when the foam has gone flat, crumbly or mouldy, or when you want to change the shape of the seating. We cut new foam to your exact dimensions, including tapered or angled berths.
If you are not sure, send photos. We will tell you honestly which one your van needs.
How much does campervan upholstery cost in NZ?
Campervan interiors vary so much in size, shape and layout that we don’t publish a fixed price list. Dinette cushions, berth mattresses, curtains, flooring and awnings are quoted free from photos, and you get a fixed price before any work starts.
Cab seats are priced like car seats. Our car seat reupholstery cost guide sets out what single seats and front pairs cost in vinyl, fabric and leather.
What moves the price: the number of pieces, how complicated the shapes are, whether foam is replaced, and the material you choose.
How does a campervan upholstery job work?
- Send photos. A wide shot of the interior, close-ups of each item, and rough measurements of cushions and berths. Tell us the make and model of the van.
- Get a quote and choose materials. We come back with a fixed price and help you choose fabrics that suit how you use the van.
- Choose how we work. We can work on site at the van, pick up and deliver cushions and curtains, or you can drop them in to us. We cover all of Auckland: Central, East, West, South and the North Shore.
- Make up and fit. Covers and cushions are made to your van’s shapes and fitted. We confirm the timeline with your quote.
We are open seven days: Monday to Friday 8am–7pm, weekends 9am–6pm.
Frequently asked questions
Can you upholster a van I converted myself?
Yes. We work on DIY conversions as well as factory-built campervans and motorhomes. You can have us do just the seating, or the whole interior.
Can you make cushions for an odd-shaped berth?
Yes. Tapered, angled and notched shapes are common in vans, and we cut foam and make covers to fit the exact dimensions.
Can you match my existing fabric?
Often, yes. Send a daylight photo and, if possible, a small offcut. If an exact match isn’t available, we can suggest a close match or a refresh of the whole interior so everything ties together.
Do I have to bring the van in?
No. We can come to the van, collect and deliver removable items, or you can drop cushions in, whichever is easiest.
