For upholstery in Auckland City, we cover every central suburb, from the CBD and Ponsonby to Parnell, Remuera, Mt Eden and St Heliers, with pickup and delivery, on-site work where it makes sense, and free quotes from photos. Reupholstering a 3-seater sofa costs $900–$1,800, a 2-seater $600–$1,200, and dining chairs $80–$300 each, fabric and labour included (excl GST). Send a photo on WhatsApp and we will give you a fixed price.
Central Auckland asks different things of an upholsterer than the suburbs do. The furniture is older in the villa streets, the access is tighter in the apartments, there is a café on every corner, and several of the city’s marinas sit on the edge of the CBD. This page covers how we handle each of those.
Which central Auckland suburbs do you cover?
All of them. Pickup, delivery and on-site visits cover:
- City and fringe: Auckland CBD, Wynyard Quarter, Freemans Bay, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, St Marys Bay
- Inner east: Parnell, Newmarket, Remuera, Orakei, Mission Bay, St Heliers
- Inner south: Mt Eden, Epsom and the surrounding streets
We are open seven days, Monday to Friday 8am–7pm and weekends 9am–6pm, so a Saturday pickup from an apartment or a Sunday visit to a boat is normal for us.
Is it worth reupholstering furniture in a villa or character home?
Very often, yes. The villas and bungalows of Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Mt Eden and Remuera tend to hold furniture that was bought to last: hardwood-framed armchairs, inherited sofas, solid timber dining sets and occasional chairs that suit the house better than anything new would. When the frame is sound, new foam and fabric give you the piece back for a fraction of what a comparable new one costs.
What to look at before you decide:
- The frame. Knock on it and rock it. Solid and quiet is a good sign. Loose joints can usually be reglued while the fabric is off.
- The springs. Press the seat. If it pushes back evenly, the spring system is likely worth keeping.
- The proportions. Character homes have high ceilings and deep rooms. A piece that suits the room is worth more than its resale value suggests.
Our checklist in is your old sofa worth reupholstering goes through this in detail, and how to choose upholstery fabric helps when you are matching a period room.
What does furniture upholstery cost in central Auckland?
These are our published price ranges, and they include fabric and labour. All prices exclude GST.
| Piece | Typical cost (2026) |
|---|---|
| 3-seater sofa | $900 – $1,800 |
| 2-seater sofa | $600 – $1,200 |
| Corner or modular sofa | $1,500 – $3,000 |
| Dining chair (each) | $80 – $300 |
| Bar stool (each) | $80 – $300 |
Where a job lands in the range depends on the fabric, the amount of new foam, and whether the frame needs work. For the full breakdown see what sofa reupholstery costs in Auckland and what an armchair costs.

How do you get furniture out of a CBD apartment?
For apartment owners in the CBD, Wynyard Quarter, Freemans Bay and Newmarket, access is usually the first worry. Our pickup and delivery handles it: we bring the people and the vehicle, and work out lifts, stairs and parking with you before the day.
A few things make it go smoothly:
- Measure the lift and doorways. Lift door width, internal lift depth and the tightest doorway or corridor turn. Send those with your photos.
- Check your building’s rules. Many buildings want the goods lift booked, or moves kept to certain hours. Let us know and we will fit around it.
- Tell us about parking. Loading bay, visitor park or street only. Central streets fill up, and knowing ahead saves time on the day.
- Modular pieces are easier. Sectional sofas usually separate, which helps in small lifts.
If something will not fit in the lift, tell us early. Seat cushions, loose backs and dining chair seats can often come to the workshop on their own while the frame stays put.
Do you do café, restaurant and bar seating in the city?
Yes. Central Auckland has a lot of hospitality seating, from Ponsonby Road and Parnell cafés to CBD bars and Newmarket restaurants, and it wears out quickly. We reupholster booths, banquettes, café chairs and bar stools in contract-grade vinyl and fabric, and we can stage the work so you keep trading. See commercial upholstery in Auckland for how we handle venue work, and what it costs to reupholster a bar stool.
Do you work on boats at the city marinas?
Yes. We have worked at Westhaven Marina, Viaduct Harbour, Silo Marina and the Orams Marine dry stack, all on the edge of the CBD. For boats we can work on-site at the berth, or take squabs, cushions and seats back to the workshop and return them.
Marine prices are published separately and exclude GST: a restitched seam or patched split from $80, a recover over sound foam from $100, and a full squab replacement $150–$200. Our marine upholstery page covers seats, squabs, biminis and covers, and the boat upholstery cost guide has every marine price.
What about car seats?
Leather seats often crack first along the side bolster, where you slide in and out. We repair, recolour and reupholster car seats in leather and fabric. Prices are in what car seat reupholstery costs in Auckland, and leather car seat restoration explains what can be saved.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge more for central Auckland?
The same published price ranges apply in central Auckland, and your quote is fixed before any work starts. If access is unusually difficult, for example no lift and several flights of stairs, we will tell you when we quote, not after.
Can you bring fabric samples to my home?
Yes. Seeing fabric in your own light matters, especially in villas where the light changes a lot through the day. You can also choose at the workshop.
How long will my sofa be away?
It depends on the piece and the fabric, and we confirm the timeframe with your quote. If you need the piece back by a certain date, tell us when you ask for the quote.
Can you do just the cushions?
Yes. Recovering seat cushions or replacing tired foam is a smaller job, and a good option if you would rather not move the whole sofa out of an apartment.
